GAME OVER PRESS START

Digital SUPERPOWER! Project presented at Fak' Ugesi African Digital Innovation Exhibition

Enter a fictional universe in which life is a game with the objective of allowing women and the LGBTQ+ community to live safely in society.

With the historical experiences of both communities, game over’ confronts the realities that we have failed the objective to protect the people.

However, one is given a second attempt at winning with hints on how to win the game - a comment on the possibilities and requirements for reformation in the systems that oppress women and the LGBTQ+ community.

-----------------------------

The artwork is developed as part of Digital SUPERPOWER! an initiative that aims to empower womxn and the LGBTQ community (often most vulnerable in the inner city and Southern African communities) to express their relationship with the city and their environment using technology and community engagement.

Over a period of 3 weeks, 15 womxn creatives and artists from Johannesburg, Bulawayo and London gathered online to explore issues surrounding gender safety in the urban centers of London, Bulawayo, and Johannesburg. They each used a custom gesture sensing data collection digital platform developed by artist & designer Ling Tan, to explore and collect data surrounding their own subjective perception and their communities' experiences of gender safety. Based on their data findings and learnings from each other, each participant develop an artwork in their preferred digital medium.
